DESCRIPTION

PHENADRYL (Diphenhydramine Hydro-chloride) is an ethanolamine class antihistaminic drug. It also has additional sedative action and atropine like activity in human body. It acts predominantly as a competitive inhibitor of histamine on H1- receptor.

COMPOSITION

Syrup : Each 5 ml syrup contains Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride

USP 10 mg.

INDICATIONS

PHENADRYL is indicated in all histaminic diseases such as perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, urticaria, angio-edema, allergic reactions to blood and plasma, motion sickness and drug induced parkinsonism. It is also indicated in cough.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Adults

2-4 teaspoonful 3 to 4 times daily.

Children

6-12 years : 1-2 teaspoonful 3 times daily.

2-6 years : ½ -1 teaspoonful 2-3 times daily.

Up to 2 years : ¼-½ teaspoonful 1-3 times daily.

OR AS DIRECTED BY THE PHYSICIAN.

SIDE EFFECTS

Side effects of Diphenhydramine in elderly patients are very rare but sometimes dizziness, intestinal discomfort and sedation may occur. Restlessness may occur due to over dosage of Diphenhydramine in children.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Diphenhydramine is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to it.

PRECAUTIONS

Diphenhydramine should be used with caution in lactating mothers, pregnant women, asthma and with anticholinergic drugs.
