Amodis 400 mg Tablet

Overview

Amodis Tablet contains Metronidazole, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent indicated for the treatment of trichomoniasis, intestinal and extra-intestinal amoebiasis, giardiasis, bacterial vaginosis, anaerobic infections, and prevention of post-operative infections due to anaerobic bacteria.

Dosage and Administration

Trichomoniasis (adults): 200 mg three times daily or 400 mg twice daily for 7 days. Intestinal amoebiasis (adults): 800 mg three times daily for 5 days. Giardiasis (adults): 2 g once daily for 3 days. Bacterial vaginosis: 400 mg twice daily for 7 days. Dosage varies by indication and age; follow physician's advice.

Interaction

Disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol; potentiates warfarin's anticoagulant effect; increases lithium and cyclosporin levels; phenytoin and phenobarbital may reduce its plasma levels; increases toxicity of 5-fluorouracil and busulfan.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives.

Side Effects

Metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, drowsiness, and rashes may be observed during treatment.

Pregnancy and Lactation

US FDA Pregnancy Category B. Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk; caution advised during breastfeeding.

Precautions and Warnings

Use with caution in patients with hepatic encephalopathy; dosage reduction may be needed. May darken urine. Prolonged use requires monitoring of leucocyte count and neurological status.
