Overview

Calbo 500 mg Tablet contains Calcium Carbonate, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is used as a calcium supplement to prevent and treat calcium deficiency states, support bone health, and as an antacid for the symptomatic relief of acid indigestion and heartburn.

Dosage and Administration

Adults: 1-2 tablets daily with meals, or as advised by the physician. For antacid use, chew or swallow with water as needed. Calcium is best absorbed in divided doses rather than a single large dose.

Interaction

May reduce the absorption of certain antibiotics (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones), bisphosphonates, levothyroxine, and iron supplements if taken simultaneously; maintain a 2-hour interval. Thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of hypercalcaemia.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis, and known hypersensitivity to any component.

Side Effects

Constipation, bloating, and flatulence are common. Hypercalcaemia may occur with excessive intake.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Considered safe during pregnancy and lactation at recommended doses; calcium supplementation is often recommended in pregnancy, under medical supervision.

Precautions and Warnings

Avoid exceeding the recommended daily dose. Monitor calcium levels in patients with a history of kidney stones or renal impairment.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
