Overview
Iventi (Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride) 400 mg Tablet is a 4th generation broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It inhibits bacterial topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. Iventi is active against a wide range of gram-positive, gram-negative, anaerobic, and atypical bacteria including Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and is indicated for acute bacterial sinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, skin and skin structure infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections, and pelvic inflammatory disease.
Dosage and Administration
Acute bacterial sinusitis: 400 mg once daily for 7–10 days. Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 400 mg once daily for 5–10 days. Community-acquired pneumonia: 400 mg once daily for 7–14 days. Uncomplicated skin/skin structure infections: 400 mg once daily for 7 days. Complicated skin/skin structure infections: 400 mg once daily for 7–21 days. Complicated intra-abdominal infections: 400 mg once daily for 5–14 days. Pelvic inflammatory disease: 400 mg once daily for 14 days. No dose adjustment is required for renal or hepatic impairment. Not recommended for patients under 18 years of age.
Interaction
Absorption of Iventi is decreased by antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, and multivalent cations (iron, zinc). Avoid concurrent use with NSAIDs (increased risk of convulsions) and warfarin (increased bleeding risk). Take Iventi separately from these agents.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to moxifloxacin or other quinolones. Avoid use in patients with known QT interval prolongation, uncorrected hypokalemia, or those receiving Class IA or Class III antiarrhythmic agents.
Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and dizziness. Iventi may increase the risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture — discontinue immediately if tendon pain or inflammation occurs.
Pregnancy and Lactation
FDA pregnancy category C. Moxifloxacin is not recommended during pregnancy or lactation.
Precautions and Warnings
Iventi should be discontinued if signs of tendinitis appear. Do not use in patients with QT prolongation or uncorrected hypokalemia. Absorption is reduced by antacids and multivalent cations — allow adequate time separation. Pediatric use is not established for patients under 18 years.
