Laxyl is indicated for emotional disturbances including acute tension and anxiety states, difficulties in interpersonal contact, agitation, insomnia, and anxious or agitated depressive reactions. It is also used for functional disturbances in the cardiovascular system (pseudoangina, tachycardia, emotiogenic hypertension), respiratory system (dyspnea, hyperventilation), gastrointestinal tract (irritable bowel syndrome, epigastric pain, spasm, bloating, diarrhea), urinary tract (frequency, irritable bladder, dysmenorrhea), and psychosomatic disorders such as psychogenic headache, asthma, and gastric or duodenal ulcer. It is also used as an adjunct in emotional reactions to chronic organic disease.

Dosage and Administration

Standard outpatient dosage: 1.5–3 mg up to three times daily, beginning with low doses and gradually increasing to the optimum level.

Severe cases (especially inpatient): 6–12 mg two or three times daily. Overall treatment duration should generally not exceed 8–12 weeks. If extension is necessary, it should involve re-evaluation by a specialist.

Elderly and hepatically impaired patients: Lower doses are required.

Children: Not usually indicated; if prescribed, dose should be adjusted to body weight (approximately 0.1–0.3 mg/kg body weight). Tablets are for oral administration.

Interaction

Co-administration with other centrally active drugs — including antidepressants, hypnotics, narcotics, antipsychotics, antiepileptic drugs, sedative antihistamines, and anesthetics — may enhance the sedative effects of Laxyl. Cimetidine may prolong the elimination half-life of Bromazepam. Concurrent intake of alcohol should be avoided as it intensifies the sedative effect.
