Salmolin 4 mg Tab
DESCRIPTION
SALMOLIN (Salbutamol) is a β2-adrenoceptor agonist with effects on smooth and skeletal muscle like bronchodilation, relaxation of uterine muscle and tremor. It is a synthetic sympathomimetic agent with predominant β2- adrenoceptor activity and selective action over receptors of bronchial muscle. It has not any significant action on cardiac receptors. It also has an antiallergic effect on mast cells causing inhibition of release of histamine, neutrophil chemotactive factor (NCF) and prostaglandin D2 (PGD2).
COMPOSITION
Tablet : Each tablet contains Salbutamol 4 mg (as Salbutamol Sulfate BP).
Syrup : Each 5 ml syrup contains Salbutamol 2 mg (as Salbutamol Sulfate BP)
INDICATIONS
SALMOLIN is indicated in asthma, chronic bronchitis, chest pain and bronchospasm. It is also indicated in management of premature labour.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Over 12 years : ½-1 tablet (2-4 mg) or 1-2 teaspoonful 3 to 4 times daily.
Maximum single dose is 8 mg. 6 to 12 years : ½ tablet (2 mg) or 1 teaspoonful 3 to 4 times daily. 2 to 6 years : 1-2 mg or ½-1 teaspoonful 3 to 4 times daily.
OR AS DIRECTED BY THE PHYSICIAN.
SIDE EFFECTS
Fine tremor of skeletal muscle occurs in some patients. This effect is dose related. Sometimes stimulation may be exposed to the action of salbutamol on skeletal muscle which is not due to direct CNS stimulation. Care should be taken with patients suffering from hypertension, myocardial insufficiency, and if no compelling reasons exists it should be avoided.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Salbutamol should not be used together with β-blocking drugs. It is also contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Salbutamol.
PRECAUTIONS
Unnecessary administration of the drug during the first trimester of pregnancy should be avoided. Caution is advised in patients suffering from thyrotoxicosis.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
The concomitant use of Salbutamol and other oral sympathomimetic agents are not recommended since such combined use may lead to deleterious cardiovascular effects. Patients being treated with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants should use Salbutamol with caution since the action of Salbutamol on the vascular system may be potentiated. Salbutamol should not be used with b-receptor blocking agents since they inhibit the effect of each other.
Since Salbutamol may lower serum potassium, care should be taken in patients also using other drugs which lower serum potassium as the effects may be additive.
