Overview

BetriXa 40 mg Capsule contains Betrixaban, manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. It is an oral factor Xa inhibitor anticoagulant used for the prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in adult patients hospitalized for an acute medical illness who are at risk of thromboembolic complications.

Dosage and Administration

Initial dose of 160 mg on day 1, followed by 80 mg once daily, taken at the same time each day with food, for 35-42 days, as advised by the physician. Dose adjustment is required in renal impairment and with concomitant P-gp inhibitors.

Interaction

Concomitant use with P-glycoprotein (P-gp) inhibitors increases betrixaban exposure and requires dose reduction. Concomitant use with other anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents increases bleeding risk.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with active pathological bleeding and known hypersensitivity to betrixaban.

Side Effects

Bleeding is the most common and most serious side effect. Nausea and other minor gastrointestinal symptoms may also occur.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Limited data are available on use during pregnancy and lactation; use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk, under medical supervision.

Precautions and Warnings

Discontinuing without adequate alternative anticoagulation increases the risk of thrombotic events. Increased risk of bleeding in patients with renal impairment, low body weight, or concomitant antiplatelet therapy. Avoid in patients with severe hepatic impairment.

Storage Conditions

Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions
