Overview

Hemorif Tablet contains Diosmin 450 mg and Hesperidin 50 mg, a combination phlebotonic and vascular-protecting agent. Diosmin and Hesperidin reinforce venous tone by prolonging the activity of parietal noradrenaline, thereby decreasing venous capacitance, distensibility, and emptying time. They protect the microcirculation by combating venous inflammation — reducing leukocyte activation and inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators including free radicals and prostaglandins. This normalises capillary permeability and strengthens capillary resistance. The combination also improves lymphatic drainage by increasing lymph flow and lymph oncotic pressure. Hemorif is indicated for acute and chronic haemorrhoidal attacks, chronic haemorrhoidal disease, and organic and functional chronic venous insufficiency of the lower limbs presenting with heavy legs, pain, and nocturnal cramps.

Dosage and Administration

Acute haemorrhoidal attacks: 3 tablets twice daily for the first 4 days, then 2 tablets twice daily for the next 3 days; if required, 1 tablet twice daily as maintenance dosage.

Chronic haemorrhoids: 1 tablet twice daily.

Chronic venous insufficiency: 1 tablet twice daily initially for seven days; duration may be increased depending on severity.

Tablets should be taken at meal times. If haemorrhoidal symptoms do not resolve within 15 days, consult a physician.

Interaction

No evidence of drug incompatibility or clinically significant drug interactions has been reported in clinical trials for Diosmin and Hesperidin. However, patients on concurrent medications should consult their physician before use.

Contraindications

Hemorif is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Diosmin, Hesperidin, or any other component of the formulation. Chronic venous insufficiency and its complications must be diagnosed and monitored by a physician.

Side Effects

Hemorif is generally well tolerated. Occasional gastric disorders (such as nausea or stomach upset) and neurovegetative disorders (feelings of discomfort) have been reported. In such cases, discontinuation of treatment is not typically required.

Experimental studies have not shown any teratogenic effect in animals, and no harmful effects in humans have been reported to date. However, in the absence of data on excretion into breast milk, breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.

As a precaution, Hemorif is not recommended for patients with a history of cancer, as no specific studies have been performed in this population. More than 20 years of clinical use in Europe and animal studies have found no evidence of carcinogenicity or mutagenicity when the components are used as recommended.
